I build Coucou, so I am not a neutral reviewer. My wife is French, and I am learning so I can speak properly with her and her family. B2 by the end of 2026 is a goal I set for myself. As of 10 September, my tracker says B1, Day 122, with 69 milestones tracked. I still struggle to separate simultaneous background actions from completed events while speaking.

Langua already has a language lesson around the conversation

Langua's official page presents AI conversations alongside role-plays, corrections, vocabulary help and progress features. You still choose what to practise, but you are entering a product built for language learning rather than starting with a blank general-purpose chat.

The access details had gone stale in the previous version of this guide. On 9 September 2026, Langua said you could try one conversation free after signing up, without a subscription. Its Standard plan was listed at 30 minutes per day or 75 messages. The extended unlimited trial required a card.

The previous article said roughly three free minutes a day and called that allowance "stingy." Both lines are gone. Plan details move, and the adjective did not help anyone decide. Langua's page is also a vendor source, so I use it for the plan wording and advertised features only. I have no dated hands-on receipt that would support a claim about its conversation quality.

Why I built Coucou around voice notes

A scheduled lesson was only one kind of friction for me. I could understand a tense rule on paper, then lose it as soon as I had to speak. I wanted the next attempt to arrive in the chat I already opened every day.

Coucou lives in Telegram. It sends short practice turns, accepts text or voice notes, gives a specific correction and uses earlier weak spots when planning later practice. Cadence and correction preferences can be changed by telling it in the chat.

A repaired word and a lower score

On 16 August I practised this sentence:

The first voice note was transcribed as « Il pleuvait quand le bas de la busse est arrivé » and received 85. The tutor named pleuvait and bus as less crisp, sent the sentence slowly, and asked for another attempt.

The next voice note produced the correct transcript, « Il pleuvait quand le bus est arrivé », but the score fell to 81. The feedback said bus had landed cleanly and that the remaining issue was hesitant, word-by-word flow around pleuvait.

The number went down. The word I had been trying to repair came through correctly. I would have missed that improvement if I had looked only at 85 versus 81.

What helped was specific and boring: hear the problem, listen to the model, say the same sentence again. The mismatch also exposes Coucou's limit plainly. Its numeric score did not capture this repair cleanly.

Take the two-minute test before you sign up

Set a timer for two minutes. Without notes, speak in French about:

Use your phone recorder or the tool you are testing. Keep going through pauses. When time is up, listen once and choose one sentence where you hesitated, switched to English or disliked the sound.

Ask for one correction to that sentence. Then repeat only the repaired sentence.

You are checking whether you can get from a messy first attempt to a clearer second one without spending ten minutes configuring the session. Did the feedback identify something concrete? Could you make the repair right away? Did the interface get out of the way?

If the answer is yes, keep that option for a few more sessions. If the response is vague or the second attempt is awkward to make, move on. And if the phone recorder is enough for now, use it again tomorrow.
